North Druid Hills Road Corridor Study Archive

Project Timeline

The City of Brookhaven is conducting a study of North Druid Hills Road between SR 141/Peachtree Road and SR 42/Briarcliff Road. The purpose of the study is to develop a vision for the corridor that will serve projected future traffic and to provide improved facilities for people walking, biking, and using transit.

This project will focus primarily on the portion of North Druid Hills Road north of SR 13/Buford Highway, since several projects are underway at the southern end of the study corridor, including: the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Development of Regional Impact (DRI); a GDOT project to implement improvements at the interchange at I-85 and N. Druid Hills Road (PI #0016054); and the North Fork Peachtree Creek Greenway trailhead access point near the Salvation Army.

The last day for public comments on any aspect of the study to be included in the report to Mayor and City Council is Friday, March 22  at ndruidhills@brookhavenga.gov.  Public Works will continue to be available to discuss maintenance, operations and capital improvements to the City's streets, sidewalks, stormwater systems, traffic signals, roadway signs and rights-of-way issues at 404-637-0540 or streets@brookhavenga.gov.  For service/maintenance requests use Brookhaven Connect, a free app that allows users to communicate non-emergency issues, like potholes, code enforcement or other issues.  Brookhaven Connect is available for iPhone, Android, and Windows phones or at CitySourced on other devices or from a computer at https://www.brookhavenga.gov/community/page/brookhaven-connect-service-request.

Study Objectives

  • Improve connectivity between the eastern and western parts of the City of Brookhaven, and facilitate north-south travel along North Druid Hills Road.

  • Improve biking and walking conditions along the corridor.

  • Enhance access to key destinations and expand options for how to reach those locations, including on foot, by bike, and by transit, as well as by car.

  • Improve the efficiency of traveling along North Druid Hills Road while accommodating anticipated future traffic levels.

  • Improve traffic operations at key intersections along the corridor.

  • Accommodate changes in traffic patterns from DeKalb County School redistricting.

City Council Work Session Feb. 12

Updated projects presented to City Council with a summary of public feedback received through Jan. 25 occurred on Feb. 12 at the 3:30 p.m. work session. The packet of materials and video can be found here: http://brookhavencityga.iqm2.com/Citizens/Default.aspx. A hi-res copy of the presentation can be viewed here: Feb. 12 work session presentation (File size 10 MB)

All other emails after that date are still being reviewed by project staff for revisions to be presented in March at the next round of open houses. The project team will take your comments and comments from all other residents under advisement and document them as an accompaniment to the final report for the study.

Public Involvement

Two sets of public meetings will be held during the course of the study. The first round of public meetings, held in January 2019, provided an overview of the project and present preliminary ideas for intersection improvements, lane configurations, and enhanced facilities for pedestrians and cyclists. A second round of public open houses, scheduled for March 2019, will present the final recommendations for the study. The public is invited to provide feedback at both rounds of open houses before the study is finalized and presented to City Council for approval and adoption in April 2019.

March 2019 Open Houses

Open houses will NOT have a formal presentation. People may come in at any time to review the updated exhibits for North Druid Hills Road. Exhibits will be placed “science fair style” to allow people to spend as much or as little time they want to review each display and ask questions of project staff.  The two meetings will contain the same material, so it is only necessary to attend one. Recorded comments may be written down during the meeting or emailed to the project team at NDruidHills@BrookhavenGa.gov

Public Open House Materials

Community members are invited to view the information presented at the public open houses and provide comments via email to NDruidHills@brookhavenga.gov. Comments on materials presented at the second round of open houses will be accepted until Friday, March 22.   In order for your comments to be included in the documentation for this study, they must be received by this date.

January 2019 Open Houses

Two identical public open houses were held in January 2019. The public was invited to visit either public meeting at any time between 6 and 8 p.m. The two meetings contained the same material, so it was only necessary to attend one:

Public Open House Materials

Community members were invited to view the information presented at the public open houses and provide comments via email to NDruidHills@brookhavenga.gov. Comments on materials presented at the first round of open houses were accepted until Friday, Jan. 25 to be summarized at the first City Council work session on Feb. 12.  The email address remains open for comments on the information and recommendations posted on this site.

Final Steps/Project Timing

The City of Brookhaven is conducting a presentation of the final draft recommendations of the North Druid Hills Road Corridor Study on Tuesday, April 9, at Brookhaven City Hall.

Upon approval of the recommendations by the City Council, the City will develop a plan to fund and prioritize implementation of the recommended projects.  The design details of recommendations from this visioning study will be worked out during the planning and design of the individual projects and discussed with, if any, impacted properties.
