Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

The Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Department is overseen by the Information Technology Director. The GIS team supports multiple city departments by producing maps and analysis that track city assets like parks and streets, and identify local topography and current land use. 

GIS is responsible for the organization and management of key city spatial databases such as addresses, street names, land ownership, and zoning.  The GIS team provides critical datasets to several city departments, including Community Development, Code Enforcement, Public Works, and the Police Department.  

The GIS department also maintains the GIS City Web Applications and Open Data site.

In 2014, the City of Brookhaven GIS Department was awarded Distinguished System for the Exemplary Systems in Government (ESIG) Award given out by the Urban and Regional Information Systems Association's (URISA.) Since 1980, this award has recognized extraordinary achievements in the use of geospatial information technology that have improved the delivery and quality of government services.

The GIS Department also supports the Brookhaven Connect application used to for citizens to report various issues around the City.
