The Brookhaven Human Resources Department provides seven essential services for the effective operation and management of the City government, including recruiting and staffing; human resource information systems; employee relations; health and safety; risk management, employee benefits; and employee retirement accounts.

E-Verify is an Internet-based system that allows an employer, using information reported on an employee's Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification, to determine the eligibility of that employee to work in the United States.  Eligibility employment verification is mandatory for municipalities.

The E-Verify system is operated by the Department of Homeland Security in partnership with the Social Security Administration.
