No Dumping: Drains to Stream - Brookhaven Stormwater Utility

Updated: 2/9/24

The City of Brookhaven implemented a stormwater utility in July 2013 and set up utility rates by Resolution RES 2013-06-06. Administrative changes were made to the utility rates in May 2017 and June 2021 by resolutions RES 2017-05-05 RES 2021-06-06.  The annual fees are collected with residents' annual tax bill and deposited into a dedicated and restricted stormwater fund.  These fees support all of the division's activities.

This utility provides support for major stormwater activities:

  • Supporting Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) activities and implementing stormwater Best Management Practices (BMPs)
  • Drainage and water quality systems condition assessments;
    • Every 5 years, 100% of the MS4 is inspected by City personnel and its consultants
    • Inspection of one of five Inspection Zones each year
  • Maintenance Activities:
    • Repairs and rehabilitation of pipes, catch basins, manholes, ditches, and swales
    • Cleaning and robotic CCTV inspections
    • Emergency Replacement and Repairs
  • System planning and operational enhancements
  • Respond to resident reports on a variety of drainage system issues and observations
