Background information

  • On February 29, 2024 a resident reported a sink hole under the northbound lane of Ashford Trl near 3827 Ashford Trl
  • Public Works responded within two hours and placed a steel plate over the sinkhole an added barrels and cones around the area.
  • On the morning of March 1, 2024, Public Works investigative and maintenance crews responded to further assess the issue and to perform stabilizing "triage" to the area
    • Triage included saw cutting and removing pavement over the entire sinkhole to stable ground.  This extended from the outside edge of the northbound lane to just across the centerline of the road.
    • Once clear, a compacted mixture of stone and sand (graded aggregate base - GAB) was used to backfill the sinkhole to held prevent further spread of the sinkhole
    • Crews excavated as much of the loose materials in the caved-in portions of the road as they could without causing additional damage
    • Public Works staff used a high resolution "pole" camera to inspect the damage from inside a 36" corrugated metal pipe (CMP) and found the pipe to have collapsed near the area of the sinkhole
  • In the meantime, the northbound lane will remain closed.
