Buford Highway Streetscape Project – from Afton Lane to Clairmont Drive
This section of Buford Highway/State Route 13 is currently under construction to install sidewalks and to construct a raised concrete median, two new HAWK pedestrian signals, and other improvements under GDOT’s project PI0009400 (https://www.dot.ga.gov/applications/geopi/Pages/Dashboard.aspx?ProjectID=0009400). The City’s scope for this project includes conceptual analysis for the installation of a multiuse path on one side of Buford Highway/SR 13 as well as for the beautification of the corridor with landscaping, planted median (where feasible), and street furniture per the Buford Highway Overlay and in conjunction with the Cultural Corridor Designation. The work will require a special encroachment permit with GDOT as well as a maintenance agreement. Construction is anticipated to be concurrent with GDOT’s project.
Funding Source: This project is funded by the City’s Special Service District millage rate.
Status Update (February 9, 2024): The project is currently in the design phase of development. The design work is approximately 99% complete. The design plans have been reviewed by GDOT for use on construction approval, and a preliminary construction cost estimate has been provided by GDOT’s contractor E.R. Snell to construct the improvements as part of the current project. The city is currently awaiting the final construction cost estimate from E.R. Snell.
Status Update (November 15, 2023): The project is currently in the design phase of development. The design work is approximately 99% complete. The design plans have been reviewed by GDOT for use on construction approval, and a preliminary construction cost estimate has been provided by GDOT’s contractor E.R. Snell to construct the improvements as part of the current project.
Status Update (September 8, 2023): The project is currently in the design phase of development. The design work is approximately 90% complete and is scheduled to be complete by late early fall 2023. The design plans are currently under review by GDOT for approval.
Status Update (June 20, 2023): The project is currently in the design phase of development. The design work is approximately 40% complete and is scheduled to be complete by late summer/early fall 2023.
Status Update (May 3, 2023): The project is currently in the design phase of development. The design work is approximately 25% complete and is scheduled to be complete by summer 2023.
Status Update (March 3, 2023): The project is currently in the design phase of development. The design work notice to proceed was issued on February 24, 2023, and the design work and necessary GDOT permitting is anticipated to take approximately 4 to 6 months to complete.
