Storm System Rehabilitation Near 1755 Georgian Terrace/Skyland Drive
Updated 8/18/23
Construction Progress - COMPLETED
Background
The decades old metal pipes under Skyland Drive reached the end-of-life and suffered partial collapse resulting in street and sidewalk settlement, flow capacity restrictions, and failure of the upstream and downstream headwalls. Corrosion of the flow line along the entire length of the pipe recruited surrounding backfill materials into the storm sewer and out of the road's foundation, severely weakening the roads strength. The extensive damage required full replacement of the entire system.
The rehabilitation work consisted of the following:
- Replacement of the 26” CMP culvert and 24" RCP culvert under the roadway with 24" RCP Drainage Pipe,
- Replacement of two (2) flumes with new GDOT 1034 Catch Basins,
- Reconstruction of a junction box, and
- Replacement of the upstream and downstream headwalla with energy dissipating measures.
