Storm Sewer Rehabilitation: 3645 Donaldson Drive
Updated 8/18/23
CONSTRUCTION COMPLETED March 1, 2023
Background
Residents reported formation of a large large sinkhole in the field nearest to 3645 Donaldson Drive through Brookhaven Connect, the City's resident issue reporting and communication platform. The drainage system conveys drainage from a drop inlet near 3645 Donaldson Drive to an outfall on Bubbling Creek. Investigations into the cause of the sinkhole indicated that several failure mechanisms were at work. The sinkhole formed above a buried junction box and the connecting 36" CMP is corroded along the flow line, causing joint separation and backfill material to wash into the storm sewer. Two catch basins on Donaldson Drive tie into the drainage system through 24" metal pipes, which also need replacement.
The rehabilitation work consisted of the following:
- Replacement of the 36" CMP and 24" CMP,
- Replacement of two catch basins on Donaldson Drive,
- Replacement of two junction boxes,
- Replacement of downstream headwall with energy dissipation measures,
- Installation of a pedestal top inlet upstream of the system, and
- Replacement of curb and sidewalk.
