Culvert Rehabilitation: 1475 Sylvan Circle

Finished repair of Sylvan Circle Storm Sewer

Updated 8/18/23

CONSTRUCTION COMPLETED SEPTEMBER 13, 2022

Background

Cross culvert pipe failure caused street and sidewalk settlement and restrictions to drainage along the street.  The system, possibly 100 years old had reached the end of its life and several failure mechanisms were at work.  The pipe was corroded along the entire flow line, allowing surrounding backfill materials to wash into the storm sewer causing voids in the soils above.

Rehabilitation work consisted of the following:

  • Replacement of the 18” CMP portion under the roadway with 18” PVC Drainage Pipe,
  • Replacement of short sections of 18” CMP and 24” CMP with corresponding 18” and 24” ADS HP Storm polypropylene pipe,
  • Replacement of three (3) curb inlets,
  • Reconstruction of a junction box, and
  • Replacement of the outfall headwall with a new headwall (with energy dissipation measures).
