Brookhaven expands sidewalk network

Brookhaven, GA, Feb. 1, 2018 –  Brookhaven kicks off 2018 by expanding its existing sidewalk network with the completion of several projects along Thompson Road, Skyland Drive, Woodrow Way, and Lanier Drive, totaling 3,317 feet.

The sidewalk along Woodrow Way and Lanier Drive were completed in three sections. The first section on Lanier Drive (850 feet) starts at Peachtree Road and ends at Woodrow Way. The second section on Lanier Drive (320 feet) starts at Woodrow Way and ends at 3027 Lanier Drive. The third and final section runs along Woodrow Way, starts at Lanier Drive and ends at the Oglethorpe Church entrance.

An additional sidewalk totaling 1,000 feet in length was completed along Thompson Road and extends from Dresden Drive all the way to Grant Drive. This project connects Drew Valley residents to the existing sidewalks that run along Dresden Drive.

The Skyland Drive sidewalk project has also has been completed with a length of 750 feet. This segment runs from Duke Road along Skyland Drive to South Bamby Lane and enhances Ashford Park connectivity to Dresden Drive. This project also included a three way stop sign and a cross walk at the intersection of South Bamby Lane at Skyland Drive to enhance pedestrian safety.

“The completion of these four projects and the additional sidewalks demonstrate the City’s continued dedication and stalwart commitment to advancing the Brookhaven mission to make our City a more pedestrian friendly and greener place to live,” said Mayor John Ernst.

All four projects were completed under budget and contractors were able to remain on schedule until completion.” says Public Works Director Hari Karikaran. In addition to these completed projects, the Public Works Department is also working on completing sidewalk designs for a segment along Lanier Drive that will terminate at Hearst Drive.
