Brookhaven, GA, Feb. 29, 2024 The best way to report a problem in Brookhaven is Brookhaven Connect.

Brookhaven Connect is a free smart phone app for citizens to report non-emergency problems like potholes, code violations or sidewalk issues, and Brookhaven residents have been reporting issues by the thousands. The app was originally launched in October 2015. Over the past 5 years, more than 10,000 issues have been addressed. As of Feb. 29, there are only 262 that are open.

“The beauty of the app is that it’s easy to use, and it instantly creates an automated workflow for City staff, which is assigned, tracked and reported back to the original requester,” said City Manager Christian Sigman. “You can also report issues anonymously, but of course if it’s anonymous, we can’t report the results back to the person who reported it.”

In 2023 alone, 769 requests came in through Brookhaven Connect for various infrastructure requests, including pothole and pavement patching, sidewalk repairs, stormwater issues, and street sign problems.  Of these, 542 work orders were created to address these issues.

“Not all requests turn into a work order, because there are some issues that are duplicate requests, or are reported to Brookhaven Connect that are the responsibility of DeKalb County, or one of the utilities,” said Public Works Director Don Sherrill. “In every case, whether it belongs to us or another entity, a response regarding the corrective action taken is made in Brookhaven Connect, and if the resident provided the contact information, then they will get the response, too.”

The Community Development Department also utilizes Brookhaven Connect for property maintenance/trash debris, and illegal dumping (code enforcement issues). There were 361 property maintenance requests in 2023, and 334 of those were completed. The average time to complete a property maintenance request was 15.36 days.

Construction concerns were also covered, with 226 various issues raised by residents with all but 7 of them addressed in 2023 with an average closure time of 14 days.

“When it comes to quality-of-life issues, Brookhaven residents are literally our eyes and ears in the community. If there is something wrong, a resident can report it on the Brookhaven Connect app right on the spot,” said Community Development Director Linda Abaray.

While Brookhaven Connect is a great strategy for reporting issues in public works, parks and recreation or community development, “Brookhaven Connect” is not intended for emergency or life and safety issues.

“If a resident has any concern regarding police, fire or ambulance service, they should always dial 9-1-1,” said Sigman.

Brookhaven Connect is available for iPhone, Android, and Windows phones or at or submit a request on a laptop or other devices here. The app is free.  More info on Brookhaven’s website here: https://www.BrookhavenGA.gov/community/page/brookhaven-connect-service-request
