Bluffhaven Way Storm Sewer Rehabilitation
Updated 8/18/23
Construction Progress -Storm sewer point repair work COMPLETED.
Background
The City responded to a resident's Service Request regarding a sinkhole in their yard / in right-of-way area at this location. Further study indicated a catastrophic pipe failure was imminent. While a trenchless rehabilitation project was being developed, City Stormwater Team members discovered the impending collapse of the pipe between the roadway and the detention pond's basin wall and determined it could not be remediated except through replacement. Several failure mechanisms were at work and included construction defects dating back to the original installation of the pipe. The failures allowed surrounding backfill materials to wash into the storm sewer resulting in large sinkholes at and below ground surface to develop. Other issues caused the pipe ends and their headwalls to separate from pipe.
The rehabilitation work consisted of the following:
- Removal of approximately 40 linear feet of 54" metal pipe and replacement with 54" ADS HP Storm polypropylene drainage pipe,
- Removal of excessive sedimentation in the existing basin area
- Adjustment of the storm pipe connection to the basin wall to acconmodate the new storm pipe replacement.
- Future interior pipe rehabilitation is required
