2017 a record year for Brookhaven sidewalk construction

Momentum carries in 2018 with another 1,640 linear feet

Brookhaven, GA, Mar. 2, 2018 – Last year was a Brookhaven record-setter with the addition of 4,685 feet of sidewalk installed in 2017.  The City completed sidewalk projects along Coosawatee Drive, Cravenridge Drive, Dresden Drive, East Roxboro Road, Ellijay Drive, Hermance Drive, Old Johnson Ferry Road, Woodrow Way, Johnson Ferry Road and Thompson Road.

The City of Brookhaven now has a network of over 70 miles of sidewalk and continues to add sidewalks every year.  In the first seven weeks of 2018, Brookhaven is carrying the momentum forward with the completion of two sidewalk projects totaling 1,640 linear feet. The first project runs along Lanier Drive between Peachtree Road and Woodrow Way and adds 890 feet of sidewalk to the city’s inventory. The second project runs along Skyland drives and totals 750 feet in length.

“The City of Brookhaven remains committed to providing its citizens with a more expansive and well-maintained network of sidewalks,” said Brookhaven Public Works Director Hari Karikaran.  “We are executing the City’s vision for the future sidewalk network, according to the Bicycle, Pedestrian and Trail plan that was adopted in April 2016 after extensive citizen input.”

Construction of a sidewalk along Drew Valley Road (Burch Circle to East Drew Valley Road) will begin in the second week of March and will be completed within 90 days.

In addition, engineering designs are complete for sidewalks along Mill Creek Road (Johnson Ferry Road to Greenwood Close), Cartecay Drive (Sylvan Circle to Ellijay Drive), Lanier Drive (Woodrow Way to Windsor Parkway), Tryon Road (Skyland Drive to Cravenridge Drive) and Caldwell Road (East Osborne Road to Cheshire Way). The Brookhaven Public Works Department is currently seeking competitive bids from qualified and experienced contractors to perform the work.

“One of the City’s key values is to promote and develop a more walkable and pedestrian friendly urban landscape.  I am proud of the progress we have experienced over the past two years and I look forward to what the future will hold for the City’s sidewalk inventory and the benefits has for children and families” said Mayor John Ernst.
