Brookhaven names 33 acres of Greenspace near PDK “Ashford Forest Preserve”

Name recommended by the North DeKalb Greenspace Alliance

Brookhaven, GA, Feb. 27, 2017 – The City of Brookhaven has rechristened the 33 acres of greenspace near PDK airport acquired from Dekalb County in April 2017.  The new name for the tract of land between Clairmont Road and Skyland Drive is Ashford Forest Preserve.

Brookhaven ends zoning moratorium

Brookhaven City Arborist Steven Strickland says there are a number of circumstances to consider.

“Any decision should take into account the health and location of the tree, and whether letting it grow will cause problems down the road,” said Strickland.

Brookhaven remains open for business during zoning moratorium

Brookhaven, GA, Jan. 26, 2018 – The City of Brookhaven remains open for business for many permitting and inspections operations while a zoning moratorium is in effect. 

During this time, all applications that were received prior to Jan. 24 will be processed normally. 

Between Jan. 24 and Feb. 27, applications will continue to be accepted for Tree Permits, Trade Permits and Interior Renovation Permits.  Also, the Fire Marshal’s office will continue safety and occupancy inspections during this time.

The Brookhaven City Council activated its new Brookhaven Convention and Visitors Bureau (BCVB) with the appointment of seven new trustees.

Brookhaven issues 35-day zoning moratorium

Brookhaven, GA, Jan. 23, 2018 – The City of Brookhaven approved a 35-day moratorium on all zoning cases, land disturbance permits and building permits.

“Brookhaven recently became of aware of a gap in our zoning code that occurred at the time of incorporation which could adversely affect current Brookhaven property owners,” said Councilmember Bates Mattison.  “We have to have a temporary moratorium to make a technical fix to protect existing residents and businesses.”

The moratorium remains in effect until Feb. 27, 2018.

This month’s town hall meeting will focus on the recommendations made by the first Charter Review Commission.  State law requires a review of Brookhaven’s City Charter every five years.
