Brookhaven issues permit moratorium on Buford Highway

Brookhaven, GA, June 12, 2018 – The Brookhaven City Council approved a 6-month moratorium on all land use petitions and land development permits on the section of Buford Highway within the city limits.

“As the Brookhaven Zoning Re-write draws to a close, this moratorium ensures that the vision created for this area with public input from dedicated community stakeholders is preserved until it can be enacted into law,” said City Manager Christian Sigman.

Brookhaven pools to open earlier three days each week

City Council responds to resident requests

Brookhaven, GA, June 12, 2018 – In response to multiple requests from residents, the Brookhaven City Council voted unanimously to extend the opening hours at all three municipal pools by two hours for three days a week throughout the rest of the summer season.

Beginning Wednesday, June 20, Briarwood, Lynwood and Murphey Candler pools will open weekly at 10 a.m. on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Mayor Ernst to participate in U.S. Conference of Mayors annual meeting

Brookhaven recommends planning ahead for hurricane season

Brookhaven, GA, May 25, 2018 –The City of Brookhaven reminds all residents that June 1 is the official start of the 2018 Hurricane Season that runs through the end of November.

For this season, forecasters at NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center are predicting an average potential for formation of hurricanes in the Atlantic region, the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico.

Pooches invited to Brookhaven’s ‘Bark in the Park’ June 2

Brookhaven, GA, May 25, 2018 – The City of Brookhaven will celebrate all things canine Saturday, June 2, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at Brookhaven Park, 4158 Peachtree Road (Entrance at 2660 Osborne Road).

The fourth annual “Bark in the Park” will feature pet vendors, adoptions and two shows by the Dynamo Dogs stunt team, recently featured on an episode of ABC’s The Bachelor.

Children can ‘Touch a Truck’ in Blackburn Park on June 16

Brookhaven streets swept clean

58-lane-miles completed in a week

Brookhaven, GA, May 24, 2018 – In the still of the night, Brookhaven Public Works was hard at work, getting City streets safe and clean.

Beginning May 15, Brookhaven street sweepers took to the roadways between dusk and dawn, ultimately completing more than 58 lane-miles of City streets.  The overnight hours were specifically chosen in order to minimize traffic impact.

City Council wrap up: Highlights from the May 22 meeting

Brookhaven, GA, May 22, 2018 – The Brookhaven City Council took action on several items in their May 22 meeting at Brookhaven City Hall. 

·       The Council approved a two-year professional services contract for Park Maintenance Services with Optech, LLC. The measure passed unanimously.

·       An application to rezone property at 2991 Buford Highway from C-1 to M-1 to allow for a self-storage was withdrawn by the developer.

Brookhaven approves funding for public safety facility

$12 million bond paves the way for police, municipal court, emergency ops

Brookhaven, GA, May 22, 2018 – The Brookhaven City Council approved a resolution to provide for funding of a public safety facility approved as part of the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) referendum, approved by voters in November 2017.  Also approved by voters was the ability to issue General Obligation bonds using SPLOST proceeds as repayment.

Brookhaven selects location for new public safety facility

Brookhaven, GA, May 8, 2018 – The Brookhaven City Council executed a contract to conduct architecture and engineering work for Brookhaven’s new public safety facility on the 19-acre tract of land at 1793 Briarwood Road.  The new police building will be adjacent to the signature trailhead for the Peachtree Creek Greenway (PCG) and will be the new home for Brookhaven Police, Municipal Court and Emergency Operations Center.

Brookhaven, GA, May 2, 2018 – The DeKalb County Office of Voter Registration and Elections has opened Early and Advance Voting for the 2018 General Primary & Nonpartisan Elections on May 22.  This election includes the partisan nominations for a number of statewide offices including Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State and Attorney General, and many non-partisan elections for judicial and school board positions.

Brookhaven hosts successful events during Georgia Cities Week

The City of Brookhaven participated in Georgia’s Cities Week, a statewide campaign by the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) to bring awareness about local government. Georgia’s Cities Week was April 22-28, with the theme “Georgia's Cities: In the Spotlight!” Five different activities took place during this week.

On Sunday, April 22, Brookhaven was one of the sponsors responsible for bringing renowned international flautist, Elena Durán to Brookhaven. Brookhaven residents were able to enjoy the free event at the Conant Performing Arts Center at Oglethorpe University.

Brookhaven gives streets a clean sweep
