Street Sweeping Program

The Department of Public Works Welcomes Our Newest Team Member: Elgin's RegenX Street Sweeper

Updated 2/9/24

The City's Street Sweeper is currently being repaired and is not in service.  We expect it to return to service in March 2024. We'll provide updates as they come in.

The City of Brookhaven purchased a street sweeper in 2021.

The Elgin RegenX uses regenerative air to clean the streets and minimize the dust emitted from the sweeper.  It's literally a huge vacuum cleaner using an array of water spray nozzles to moisten, brushes to loosen,  and a recycled air system clear most all debris types its path.  As an added plus, it's also equipped with a suction hose and vacuum heads to clean out catch basins and vacuum up difficult-to-sweep areas.

Public Works New Street Sweeper with Wondering Hose Attachment in the RearStreet sweeping is a continuous and linear operation, so we can’t pinpoint when the sweeper will be on your street.  For each sweeping service, each street will receive two passes, once down each curb line.

Be on the lookout for new "Rain Brigade" Street Sweeping Notice signs in your communities.  We'll have a provisional schedule published here soon.

Please review the DOs and DON’Ts below.

DON’T :

  • Sweep your yard trimmings, leaves, or other debris into the street before the sweeper passes.
  • Tailgate.  The sweeper has limited visibility, especially behind it.
  • Pass.  Try to refrain from passing the sweeper on our narrow residential streets.

DO:

  • Be patient with the process.  The sweeper moves slowly, so there may be some temporary slowdowns on the streets.
  • Try to park off-street whenever you can.  (We won’t be sweeping Christmas Day, New Years Day, or on the weekends)
  • Take a picture of the street sweeper in action, as we’re in the process of creating a Street Sweeping web page.  Send photos to stormwater@brookhavenga.gov.
