Annual Sidewalk and ADA Accessibility Program

The City of Brookhaven promotes walkable neighborhoods and healthy lifestyles. Providing walking access to school children and thereby promoting early healthy lifestyle choices, connecting neighborhoods with alternative modes of travel, improving customer traffic to retail businesses, and improving access to public transportation are some of the benefits of having a network of high-quality sidewalks in the City. The City of Brookhaven owns and maintains an extensive network of sidewalks heavily used by residents, which includes 65 miles of sidewalks and 879 curb ramps. Very limited sidewalk construction took place prior to incorporation in 2012. The City of Brookhaven completed a sidewalk and ramp inventory in 2013 and made this data available in GIS maps. The first sidewalk in the City on Briarwood Way was completed in late 2013 by the Public Works Department, which has been steadily increasing the liner feet of sidewalks constructed since 2014.
