Lanier Drive (3016) Storm Sewer Culvert Repair
Update 8/18/23
3016 LANIER DR STORM SEWER REPAIR - COMPLETED
Construction Progress - Storm sewer pipe replacement and structures completed. Concrete gutter, structure throats and roadway patch completed Friday, July 28th. Asphalt surface on the roadway patch completed Monday, July 31st.
Background
In preparation for a future re-paving project, Brookhaven's Stormwater Team found the culvert under the northbound lane required replacement. The drainage system at 3016 Lanier Drive collects stormwater in the northbound lane from St. Martin in the Fields Lanier Drive to Oglethorpe Dr. From there, additional runoff is collected in the median and flows toward Oglethorpe University where the system discharges into a roadside ditch.
In addition to the regular 5-year drainage system inspection cycle, each year, the City's Stormwater Team inspects drainage systems on roads scheduled to be resurfaced in coming year's annual paving projects. We flag and prioritize those drainage system repairs that require repair / replacement and must be open cut through the road.
This project included replacement of ~40 linear feet of undersized metal pipe with 18" PVC drainage pipe, installation of a new "pedestal" type drop inlet in the median, and new concrete flumes on both sides of the median.
