Brookhaven Police Investigates Child Abduction Incident

Brookhaven, GA. January 31, 2023 –

On January 30, 2023, at approximately 2028 hours, Brookhaven Police Officers responded to a 9-1-1 call about a kidnapping of a 10-year-old juvenile victim in the 3100 block of Buford Hwy. Brookhaven Police Officers initially responded to a report of a kidnapping attempt against an adult female victim. While Brookhaven Police Officers were speaking with the adult female victim, officers were informed that a 10-year-old juvenile female was missing. Brookhaven Police Officers began canvassing the area and confirmed that the juvenile victim was abducted by an unknown suspect driving a black late model BMW.

Brookhaven Police Investigators responded to the scene and requested the assistance of local, state, and federal partners. With the use of Flock license plate readers, Investigators were able to identify a potential suspect vehicle.
At approximately 2215 hours, Brookhaven Police Investigators learned that the juvenile female had returned home. Out of an abundance of caution, the juvenile victim was transported to an area hospital. Through the investigation, Evan Michael Sieli, 31, of Sugar Hill, was identified as the registered owner of the black BMW. Investigators gathered enough evidence and obtained warrants against Sieli for kidnapping and aggravated assault with the intent to rape.

At approximately 2250 hours, Brookhaven Police requested the assistance of the Gwinnett County Police Department in serving the arrest warrants against Sieli. Gwinnett County Police activated their SWAT team after learning Sieli was armed with a rifle. The standoff concluded with the discovery of Sieli’s deceased body with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
