Brookhaven Police Cadet Program

Brookhaven Police Cadet patch

The Brookhaven Police Department is proud to announce the start of the Brookhaven Police Cadet Program (formerly known as the Brookhaven Explorers).

The BPD Public Safety Cadet program is a public safety-focused initiative focused on the development of youth (ages 14-18) who are interested in a career in public service. Once accepted, these future leaders will be taught by Brookhaven Police Officers in both traditional classroom instruction and practical exercises that will develop skills in public safety.

Cadets will have an opportunity to participate in Ride-a-longs with on-duty police officers, participate in Regional, State, and National competitions, and be involved in city events.

The Brookhaven Public Safety Cadet program is designed to introduce young men and women who are interested in policing as a career path to the inner workings of the Brookhaven Police Department. The Police Cadets receive police academy-style training from qualified instructors which includes traffic direction, dispute resolution, de-escalation, crisis intervention, and criminal law. The program also carries a community service requirement.

The Police Cadets will have weekly training which will include:

Firearms Safety

Defensive Tactics and Arrest Techniques

Traffic Enforcement

Accident Investigation

Domestic Violence Intervention

Crime Scene Processing

First Aid and CPR

Criminal Law

The class will meet on Thursdays from 7-9 pm and will be held at the Brookhaven Police Department.

We invite those that live in Brookhaven or near Brookhaven to join us. In order to join you must be between the ages of 14-19 years old, maintain passing grades in school, have no criminal convictions or referrals to Juvenile Court, pass a criminal background check, and attend weekly meetings and community service details.

Any questions about the program or the requirements should be directed to Officer Samuel Jones via e-mail Samuel.Jones@brookhavenga.gov.
