FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Brookhaven, GA. August 3, 2022 –

Brookhaven Police received a 9-1-1 call just after 1215 hours from a female victim who stated she was just robbed in her home located in the 2900 block of Parkridge Dr, Brookhaven, Georgia.  Officers met with the 88-year-old victim who stated she had just returned home from grocery shopping at a nearby Publix supermarket when the suspect forced his way into her home and brandished a firearm.  The suspect brandished a firearm threatening to kill the victim while demanding money, bank cards, and PIN information.  After robbing the victim, the suspect forced the victim into the back bedroom where he bound her with a phone cord and power cable.  The victim told officers the suspect threatened to come back and kill her if the cards did not work prior to fleeing her home.

Investigators responded to the area and began canvassing the neighborhood.  While on scene, the victim began receiving multiple fraud alerts from her financial institutions regarding several charges being made in the Buckhead area.  Through our partnerships with private businesses, investigators were able to obtain video footage of the victim being followed from the store by the suspect along with video of the suspect using the victim’s cards at various retailers in Buckhead. The suspect and his vehicle were identified and tracked to a location in the 100 block of Fulton ST SE, Atlanta, Georgia where investigators took 36-year-old Antavious Bailey of Conyers, Georgia into custody.

At the time of Bailey’s arrest property of the robbery victim was found in his possession along with a loaded handgun which was concealed on his person. Bailey also had active arrest warrant from Fairburn PD for Fraud related offenses.

“This heinous crime shocked the conscious of our community, and I am pleased our detectives were able to quickly take this violent offender in custody. The victim in this case and the community at-large can rest knowing he is off the street. I am thankful for the diligent work of our detectives and community partners who worked together to resolve this case as quickly as they did”, said Brookhaven Police Chief Gary Yandura.
