Run/walk/jog off those pandemic pounds

Brookhaven, GA, June 19, 2020 – The Peachtree Road Race and other popular local races have been sidelined due to the coronavirus, but here’s a way to have some fitness fun from a safe distance. From July 1-31, Brookhaven running enthusiasts will be pitting their athletic prowess against nearby Chamblee and Dunwoody residents in the first-ever “31 in 31 Challenge.”

Citizens are encouraged to run/walk/jog just 31 miles in 31 days. A simple and fun virtual competition, registrants will need to take a picture/screenshot of their fitness device at the end of their activity or day, log it themselves via a spreadsheet or the “notes” app on their phone and then send the completed log no later than 5 p.m., August 1, to Mallory Izbicki, Brookhaven Parks and Recreation Events Coordinator at Mallory.Izbicki@BrookhavenGA.gov.

Once you have completed your run, it will be noted on the Parks and Recreation Facebook page and the city with the most participants will be announced around the first of August. If you take any fun photos while participating, be sure to pass those along to Parks and Recreation to post as well, and post them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram with the hashtag #BrookhavenStrong.

This is a great way to stay active and have fun participating in a good old-fashioned competition for athletic superiority against our “neighbors.” While it is hoped that everyone completes their 31 miles, the primary focus is on getting as many people as possible to take part in the challenge.
