Pets fill Brookhaven Park for Dog Gone Easter Egg Hunt

About 250 dogs crowded into Brookhaven Park for the first ever Dog Gone Easter Egg Hunt and Spring Bark Festival.

Spring Bark Festival a howling success

Brookhaven, GA, April 17, 2019 – Wearing festive scarves, collars and other Easter finery, approximately 250 dogs of all shapes, sizes and colors crowded into Brookhaven Park with their owners this past weekend for the first ever Dog Gone Easter Egg Hunt and Spring Bark Festival.

The event, produced by the City Parks and Recreation Department and the Brookhaven Park Association, featured door prizes, Braves ticket giveaways, the opportunity to pose with Peter Rabbit and special pet adoption events. The door prizes were provided by PetCo., The Lucky Street Project and Little Donkey Supply Company.

The highlight of the afternoon’s activities was the Dog Gone Easter egg hunt where 1,000 colorful plastic eggs, each containing a dog treat, were strewn over an open field. After a 1-2-3 countdown, owners and their pets rushed onto the field to gather as many treats that their dogs could handle. Pet owners were encouraged to keep their dog on a leash throughout the hunt to maintain pet control and help prevent accidental ingestion of the treat-filled plastic eggs.

A host of pet-specific vendors were on hand including Fresh Truck, Puppy Haven, Bark & Board, Mint Creative Photography, Lifeline Animal Project (dog adoptions), Little Donkey Supply Company, The Luckie Street Project, The Arc Pet Spa, The Pet Resort, PetCo., The Jason Mitchell Group and BadFerret Lure Company.

Many of the vendors were offering snazzy new collars, leashes, coats, and other pet accessories to upgrade any hot dog’s wardrobe. Decorative signs with memorable messages such as “You had me at woof” and “adopt” offered something for the pet owners as well.

Positive input from the pet owners and the enthusiastic turnout ensures the hunt will return next year.
