Murphey Candler Park South Trail project completed and ready to use

Brookhaven, GA, Sept. 24, 2021 – Brookhaven officially opened the new Murphey Candler Park South Trail, which completes another park Bond project which voters approved in 2018.
Mayor John Ernst and District 1 Councilwoman Linley Jones cut the ceremonial ribbon atop the new 30’ foot bridge which connects the football and baseball fields on the east side of the creek with the softball fields on the west side.
Other aspects of the South Trail include:
- The concrete portion of the trail 1200’ long, 10’ wide, with a section of pervious concrete as required in the Nancy Creek buffer.
- The trail was located and slightly raised above existing grade to avoid damage to tree roots.
- In addition to the 30’ bridge, another 15’ bridge was also installed at the lake emergency overflow outlet ditch.
- The South Trail project will connect to the future MCP Phase 2 trail currently in design.
- The South Trail improvements were designed by, Clark Patterson Lee (CPL), and constructed by Integrated Construction and Nobility (ICAN).
“This new bridge and path are part of the park plan vision to provide a quick and logical route for families to get from one side of the ballpark to the other,” Councilwoman Jones said. “The new bridge also provides another great view of the creek.”
“This bucolic path in the wooded area along the stream not only connects all of the ballfields together for a better recreational experience, but it will also provide the community with access to the rest of Murphey Candler Park, once the rest of the trail system is complete and connected to this section ” said Mayor Ernst.
