Who We Are

The Brookhaven Police Department is comprised of sworn police officers and non-sworn professional staff, and is approved for: 93 full-time sworn police officers; 7 part-time sworn police officers; 15 full-time non-sworn staff; and 1 part-time non-sworn staff.

BPD is one of the most diverse police agencies in Georgia, and is proud that our recruiting and hiring practices have allowed us to hire officers who are both highly qualified and reflective of the community we serve.

As of December 2020, the Department consists of 73% male and 27% female employees. Of our employees, 3% identify as Asian; 22% identify as Black or African American; 17% identify as Hispanic or Latino; 1% identify as Pacific Islander; 55% identify as white; and 1% identify as two or more races.

In comparison, according to the 2020 resident data, the City of Brookhaven is comprised of 52% male and 48% female residents. 5% of City residents identify as Asian; 10% as black or African American; 30% as Hispanic; 1% Pacific Islander; 53% white, 1% as two or more races.

   

The Chief of Police is Brandon Gurley. 

The Uniform Patrol Division is commanded by Major Jeffery Gant and consists of 58 officers, 8 sergeants, and 4 lieutenants who are divided into four 12-hour patrol shifts.

The Criminal Investigations Unit is led by Lieutenant Moises Vargas, and consists of 11 officers, 2 sergeants, and 1 lieutenant.

The Administrative Division is led by Major Lonnie Napier, and consists of 6 officers, 3 sergeants, and 1 lieutenant; as well as 13 non-sworn professional staff.

Our supervisory staff consists of 54% white, 25% black, and 21% Hispanic employees, and is 13% female.
