City Council authorizes auction to liquidate old and excess inventory

Brookhaven, GA, June 18, 2018 – Does your home office equipment need a modest upgrade? How about a “new” kennel for Fido? These items and a host of others will soon be offered for auction on a first come, first served basis as the City of Brookhaven offers some of its old and excess inventory for sale to the public.

For the first time since incorporation in 2012, the City is selling off the excess inventory after the Brookhaven City Council approved disposing of the equipment at its June 12 meeting.

Shoppers benefit from the sale, and so does the City. Clearing away the antiquated equipment not only saves valuable storage space, but City Manager Christian Sigman explains there is more to it than that.

"Recouping as much as possible of our initial investment in the equipment is an exercise in responsible stewardship of taxpayers’ funds.  It also maintains the accuracy of our accounting books,” said Sigman.

Nearly 150 inventory items, ranging from used laptops to computer towers and desk phones, will be offered for sale. Included in the mix are more unusual items such as police dog kennels, police car partitions, and other equipment.

“Most of these laptops still work, and all of them can be fixed,” said Brookhaven IT Director Robert Mullis.  “But they are not exactly on the cutting edge of technology anymore.”

The items will be listed for sale on the auction site GovDeals.com beginning July 2.
