City Council wrap-up for the June 14 meeting

Brookhaven, GA, June 16, 2022 The Brookhaven City Council acted on several items in its June 14 meeting: 

  • The Mayor and Council held a public hearing and presentation of the FY 2022 Millage Rate.  No action was taken at this meeting. The Council will act on the 2022 millage rate following two additional public hearings at its meeting on June 28.
  • The Mayor and Council held public hearing and comment on the proposed Urban Redevelopment Plan for the City of Brookhaven.
  • The Mayor appointed and the Council confirmed the appointments to the 2022 Charter Review Commission. The Council also accepted nominations by the State Senate Delegation and by the State House Delegation to the Commission.
     
  • The Council unanimously approved a consent agenda which included: 
    • The minutes of the May 24 Work Session and Regular Meeting.
       
  • The Council unanimously approved a resolution designating the Urban Redevelopment Areas and approving an Urban Redevelopment Plan, then subsequently authorized the Urban Redevelopment Agency to transact business under the provisions of the Urban Redevelopment Law.
     
  • The Council unanimously approved the first read of an ordinance to amend the Charter of the City of Brookhaven to correct a conflict in the powers of the City government to reflect the original intent of the Charter. The Council will consider the measure for adoption after another public comment at its meeting on June 28.
  • The Council unanimously approved a resolution to adopt the renewed and revised service delivery strategy for DeKalb County, to include the City of Brookhaven and for other purposes.
  • The Council unanimously approved of on-demand service for construction - Stormwater System Replacement, Granger Dr. & Granger Ct. - Task Order to the Corbett Group in the amount of $290,025.
  • The Council unanimously approved an ordinance amending the 2022 Capital Improvement Program (CIP) Fund Budget, closing the Windsor Parkway & Osborne Road Capital Project and approving the transfer of residual SPLOST appropriations to the Ashford Dunwoody-Peachtree Intersection Project.
  • The Council unanimously approved a change order for Ohmshiv Construction for the Peachtree Rd / ADR Intersection Improvement Project in the amount of $71,954.
  • The Council unanimously approved an ordinance to amend the 2022 General Fund Budget, appropriating an amount not to exceed $1,950,000 for the purchase of property located at 1611 and 1621 Johnson Ferry Road, allowing for the possible reimbursement of the total cost from the Special Service District.  The Council subsequently approved a resolution to acquire those properties, totaling approximately 13.21 acres. 
     
  • The Council unanimously approved an agreement with Woodwind Construction Company Inc. for the Murphey Candler Park Multi-Use Trail on Dam Project in the amount of $1,085,160.
  • The Council unanimously approved a ground lease agreement with the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) and for the development of a City Hall at the MARTA Brookhaven/Oglethorpe Station, MARTA Parcel D3116.  See more details here.
