Social Justice, Race, and Equity Commission

The Brookhaven Social Justice, Race, and Equity Commissions was formed on September 22, 2020 by a resolution passed unanimously by City Council. The commission reviewed the City’s Vision and Mission Statement and Charter, policies and procedures, public engagement and communication outreach, and the Brookhaven Police Department’s use of force policy, oversight and accountability to identify, evaluate and report potential recommendations to City Council. The commissions' 37 members included representatives from the various faith, education and business communities, all ages from youth to seniors, and Brookhaven Character Area geographic locations.

The Commission will be reconstituted as part of the required periodic City Charter Review (Section 6.02) and the scope of their activities determined by the City Council at that time. The next charter review will the the summer of 2027.
