2022 Charter Review Commission

Before the City of Brookhaven was officially incorporated on Dec. 17, 2012, the terms and conditions of the then-proposed City governance were defined and codified by the Georgia General Assembly. The voters subsequently approved Brookhaven cityhood as defined by that Charter.

One of the provisions of the Charter is the establishment of a Charter Review Commission every five years to reevaluate the Charter and make recommendations for changes if needed.  The last review occurred in 2017 and resulted in substantial clean up and changes to the text of the Charter in accordance with the recommendations of the 2017 Charter Review Commission.

On June 14, 2022, the Brookhaven City Council appointed the 2022 Charter Review Commission as follows:

  • William G. Hammill, nominated by the Georgia State Senate delegation as a voting member.
  • Bryan Ramos, nominated by the Georgia State House delegation as a voting member.
  • Conor Sen, Jennifer Owens, and Tywana Minor, nominated by Mayor John Ernst as voting members.
  • Kim Gocke, nominated by Mayor John Ernst as an ex-officio non-voting member of the Commission.

The Charter provides that the Commission shall commence its work on or about July 1 and complete its work with a report to the Mayor and City Council by Dec. 31 of the year of the Commission’s creation.
