City Council wrap-up for the April 26 meeting

Brookhaven, GA, April 27, 2022 The Brookhaven City Council acted on several items in its April 26 meeting: 

  • The Mayor nominated and City Council subsequently approved the appointments of Diane Geyer and David C. Payne to the Brookhaven Convention and Visitors Bureau
  • The Mayor and Council unanimously approved a consent agenda which included:
    • The minutes of the March 22 Work Session.
    • The minutes of the April 12 Work Session and Regular Meeting.
    • A contract with the Chamber of Commerce in the amount of $75,000 over 3 years.
    • A contract with Prospera in the amount of $75,000 over 3 years.
    • An application to Criminal Justice Coordinating Council for the Community Policing Micro-Grant Program.
    • An application to the US Department of Justice 2022 Law Enforcement Mental Health and Wellness Act Program.
    • An application to the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation 2022 Grant Program.
  • The City Council unanimously approved a resolution to participate in the Daffodil Project to build a living Holocaust memorial by planting daffodils at Blackburn Park.
  • The City Council unanimously approved a Brookhaven Park Settlement Agreement and Intergovernmental Agreement with DeKalb County for transfers the eastern or front portion of the Brookhaven Park to the City for $1. Also, the City has encumbered and restricted $1,600,000 to be contributed to the County to help fund the construction of a brand-new state of the art library in Brookhaven.
  • The City Council unanimously approved a resolution to commit Unassigned Fund Balance in the 2022 General Fund.
  • The City Council unanimously approved an ordinance to amend the 2022 General and Vehicle Replacement Fund Budgets to appropriate $2,000,000 for Future Vehicle Purchases.
  • The City Council unanimously approved a Resolution of Necessity prerequisite to the exercise of powers under the Urban Redevelopment Law
  • The City Council unanimously approved a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with UGA/Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources - Biochar in Brookhaven.
  • The City Council unanimously approved an ordinance to amend the 2022 General Fund Budget to appropriate $87,604 to fund the cost of the Brookhaven Police Department Health Clinician.
  • The City Council unanimously approved an ordinance amending the authorized position list for the Police Department and Parks and Recreation Department of the City of Brookhaven.
  • The City Council unanimously approved a resolution recognizing Georgia Cities Week, April 24-30, 2022.
