Brookhaven requires face masks as City Hall reopens

Brookhaven, GA, May 29, 2020 – As Brookhaven City Hall and other City facilities finalize plans to reopen to the public on June 1, a new City ordinance will require all visitors and employees to wear face masks as the fight continues against the spread of COVID-19.

At the City Council meeting last week, council members voted unanimously for the mask wearing measure. In preparation for the reopening, other health measures have been taken at City Hall in adherence to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and State and County health department guidelines. Some of these measures include the installation of plexiglass windows at the permit counter and reception area, markings on the lobby floor to denote six-foot social distancing intervals, and a free-standing hand sanitation station positioned near the front of City Hall.

If visitors to any City facility do not have a mask, one will be provided by the City.

“Wearing a face covering in public places is more than a good preventive measure for personal safety, it is also a best business practice to foster public confidence and restore the local economy,” said Brookhaven Mayor John Ernst. “By requiring a face covering at City facilities, Brookhaven is leading by example.”

Also at the Council meeting, City leaders passed a measure to comply with Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp’s mandate that a state of emergency remain in effect until June 30.
