After the final public hearing, the millage rate will be formally adopted at the June 28, 2022, meeting at 7 p.m.

In November 2021, the Brookhaven City Council adopted a balanced 2022 budget totaling $63 million in direct expenditures, defined as the total of all 15 funds minus interfund transfers. The general fund budget, which funds the day-to-day operations of the City of Brookhaven, totals $31.8 million, and represents a decrease of $5 million (13.7 percent) from the 2021 General Fund budget as revised. The anticipated millage rate in 2022 is 2.74 mills, the same rate which has been in effect since 2015.

Due to the revaluation of real property tax assessments, the proposed 2.74 millage rate results in an increase in property tax by 0.06 mills over the Rollback Millage rate.  Without this tentative tax increase, the millage rate will be no more than 2.68 mills.

For example, the tax decrease based on the difference between the rollback and the proposed millage rate for a homesteaded property with a fair market value of $625,000 would be approximately $15, and the proposed increase for a non-homestead property with a fair market value of $1.3 million is about $28.50.
