Millage Rate and Tax Digest 2023
In November 2022, the Brookhaven City Council adopted a balanced 2023 budget totaling $74.5 million in direct expenditures, defined as the total of all 16 funds minus interfund transfers. The general fund budget, which funds the day-to-day operations of the City of Brookhaven, totals $33.1 million, and represents a decrease of $11.4 million (25.8 percent) from the 2022 General Fund budget as revised. The millage rate in 2023 is 2.74 mills, the same rate which has been in effect since 2015.
Due to the revaluation of real property tax assessments, the proposed 2.74 millage rate results in an increase in property tax by 0.208 mills over the Rollback Millage rate. Without this tentative tax increase, the millage rate will be no more than 2.53 mills.
