Elections, Qualifying and Reports

The City Clerk coordinates all elections with DeKalb County Voter Registration and Elections and insures that the City abides by the Georgia Election Code and Brookhaven City Charter.

General municipal elections are held on the Tuesday following the first Monday in November in each odd-numbered year (Georgia Election Code 21-2-9 (c). Special elections will be held as needed.  

Per the City Charter, the Council has staggered four-year terms.  The qualifying fees for Council districts are set at $936 and for Mayor at $1,404.  The fees are 3% of the total gross salary of the preceding year (Georgia Election Code 21-2-131 (a).    In accordance to the set time and dates, each candidate shall file a notice of candidacy in the office of the City Clerk of Brookhaven and must meet the qualifications of the Charter and Code of the City of Brookhaven, as well as all applicable state and constitutional laws.
