Brookhaven Finance Department wins Excellence in Financial Reporting

The Mayor and City Council with Finance Director Aleksander Dimov present the Excellence in Financial Reporting award.

Brookhaven, Ga, Feb. 11, 2020 – For yet another year the City of Brookhaven’s Finance Department has won the Excellence in Financial Reporting Award from the Government Finance Officers Association.  This is the fourth consecutive year Brookhaven has earned this award.

The award, which is the highest form of recognition for government financial reporting and accounting, according to the Government Finance Officers Association, was given to the City’s Finance Department for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for 2018.

The award winning CAFR can be found on Brookhaven’s website under the Finance Department section, under the “All Finance Documents” tab, or link directly at: https://www.brookhavenga.gov/documents?field_microsite_tid=32

The City of Brookhaven has been awarded in the past for outstanding practices in government finance. In 2017 and 2018 the Government Finance Officers Association also awarded Brookhaven the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its 2016 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR).  There are 535 cities in the State of Georgia, but only 75 cities or 14% received the award in 2017.

Brookhaven is also one of the few municipalities with a Triple A bond rating from Standard & Poor’s (S&P) and Moody’s Investor Services (Moody’s).  These ratings, which apply to Brookhaven’s $40 million parks bond, reaffirm the highest ratings originally received in July 2018 for the bond for the construction of the Peachtree Creek Greenway, financed using a dedicated portion of Brookhaven’s Hotel-Motel tax receipts.
