Court Attendance & Etiquette

Court Rules

  • All persons entering the courtroom must submit to a visual inspection of their bags or purses and be scanned by the metal detector before entering the courtroom.
  • No weapons of any kind are allowed in the courtroom at any time.
  • All cell phones and mobile devices must be turned off or on silent mode and may not be used in the courtroom.
  • If you are appearing in court, you should dress nicely and in a manner that shows respect for the court.
  • No food, beverages, chewing gum or tobacco products are allowed in the courtroom.
  • No abusive language or profanity is allowed in the courtroom.

Attendance Guidelines

  • The Court asks that defendants under the age of 21 bring one parent or guardian to attend the court hearing with them, although not required by law. 
  • Spanish interpreters are available at all court sessions. If you are a non-English speaker and require the services of an interpreter for any other language, please inform the Clerk's Office as soon as possible prior to your schedule court date. Contact the Clerk's Office by phone at (404) 637-0660 or by email to court@brookhavenga.gov

New Court Date Requests

If you are unable to appear in court at the date and time provided on your citation, you may request a continuance. A courtesy continuance may be granted if no prior extensions or resets have been granted. If the Court grants the continuance request, a new court date will be issued to you.

A continuance request may be submitted:

  • In person. Visit the Clerk's Office service window at Brookhaven Municipal Court during regular office hours and be prepared to present photo ID
  • By email. Email your continuance request to court@brookhavenga.gov with photo ID attached
