Hiring Announcements

CVS Health has announced a temporary hiring push to address significant need. CVS Health Careers

Walmart & Sam’s Club have announced a seasonal hiring plan related to increased need for restocking and customers service positions. Careers Walmart

Kroger is continuing to hire and has announced a need for more associates. They are currently listing over 250 openings in metro Atlanta. Please visit Kroger Careers.

Publix has announced they are continuing to hire as soon as possible to fill positions in its stores and distribution centers. Various store positions are available throughout the company’s seven-state operating area and at nine distribution centers throughout the southeast including Lawrenceville, GA. Interested individuals should fill out an online application at www.publix.jobs

Walgreens has announced they are currently looking to fill approximately 9,500 existing full- and part-time roles in stores across the U.S. with over 300 listings currently in Georgia.  These positions can be found at jobs.walgreens.com. Amazon is reporting that they have filled all Georgia fulfillment positions to date, however you are encouraged to register to receive updates on openings as demand increases. The site is listing additional Atlanta area openings as well. Visit Amazon Jobs.

Families First Coronavirus Response Act

This Federal Act goes into effect April 1, 2020 and requires some employers to provide reimbursable pay for employees who are required to take medical or family leave related to the Coronavirus outbreak.  You are encouraged to discuss options with your employer and for more information visit U.S. DOL Resources Families First Act

Housing & Human Services

The Georgia Department of Human Services Division of Family & Children Services provides multiple services to support families in need.  Please see their site for a complete listing of resources, and important updates related to COVID-19 services.  

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) provides monthly benefits to low-income households to help pay for the cost of food. A household may be one (1) person living alone, a family, or several unrelated individuals cohabitating who routinely purchase and prepare meals together.

The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) helps supplement the diets of low-income individuals in Georgia, including the elderly, by providing them with emergency food and nutrition assistance at no cost.

The Georgia Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) helps low-income households with their home energy bills.

Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) is the monthly cash assistance program, with an employment services component, for low-income families with children under age 18, and children age 18 and attending school full-time.

Independent Agencies Providing Financial and Referral Assistance

The United Way of Greater Atlanta 2-1-1 Contact Center is an information and referral resource that connects people to the essential health and human services they need.

The Latin American Association (LAA) located on Buford Highway in Brookhaven provides translation, immigration, employment, education and support services. The LAA also provides short term financial assistance to those in need. The Brookhaven Offices are currently closed to the public however services are being provided via the website.

The Salvation Army Metro Atlanta Area Command provides financial, housing, and disaster assistance to those in need.

Healthcare Resources

Georgia Medicaid offers programs for adults, elderly, people with disabilities, and families and children. For information on a variety of programs including Georgia PeachCare for Kids a free or reduced health insurance program for children under the age of 18.

Mercy Care provides free or reduced medical care. The clinics are currently providing limited care. For an appointment call 678-843-8600.
