Boil water advisory remains in effect; City Hall open today

Brookhaven, GA, March 8, 2018 – Brookhaven City Hall has resumed normal operations following Wednesday’s water outage and is open today until 5:30 p.m.

All City facilities, including the Brookhaven Police Department, Municipal Court and recreation centers at Briarwood and Lynwood remain open.

Meeting items from the cancelled Planning Commission meeting originally scheduled for March 7 will be on the commission’s April 4 meeting agenda.

On Wednesday afternoon, DeKalb County mobilized a contractor and delivered equipment to the site of a 48-inch water main that broke earlier Wednesday morning near Buford Highway and resulted in water outages and low pressure for much of the county.

10:45 A.M. UPDATE FROM DEKALB COUNTY:

Boil water advisory remains in effect

DeKalb County Watershed Management repair work is well underway and proceeding as expected to replace the 48-inch water main that broke Wednesday morning near Buford Highway. Crews laid the first 48-inch pipe overnight, and have mobilized additional joints to begin installing today. Work is expected to be complete Friday evening.

Yesterday, crews isolated the large water main and water pressure was restored throughout most of the county.

A boil water advisory remains in place for DeKalb County Watershed customers until microbiological tests confirm water is safe for consumption. Samples for testing were drawn from 49 sites throughout the county and submitted to the Georgia Environmental Protection Division for evaluation.

After closing at 11 a.m. yesterday, all DeKalb County Government facilities are open today. Despite the early closure, DeKalb County Sanitation crews completed their collection routes and remain on their normal schedules.

Until officially notified by DeKalb County, customers should continue to boil all water prior to use for drinking, cooking, or preparing baby food. The water should be boiled for at least one minute after reaching a rolling boil.
