Brookhaven City Attorney Chris Balch wins IMLA Award

Brookhaven, GA, Sept. 22, 2022 –City Attorney Chris Balch, the chief legal officer for the City of Brookhaven has been recognized by the International Municipal Lawyers Association (IMLA) for the Marvin J. Glink Private Practice Local Government Attorney Award.  

In the nomination letter, City Manager Christian Sigman noted, “From an organizational and senior management perspective, Chris Balch deserves much credit in establishing a respected governing environment in the City of Brookhaven…In just over six years, Brookhaven has become a recognized high performing city with superior leadership, a stable and productive governing body, and a leader in innovative program and policy development.  We could not have achieved this level of success without the many years of experience Chris brought to the table.”

Chris Balch is the managing member of the Balch Law Group, an Atlanta specialty law firm representing local governments and their elected and appointed officials. In addition to Brookhaven, he has also represented Forsyth, Lowndes, Fayette, and Spaulding counties; Walker County and Athens-Clark County school districts; and the cities of Milton, Atlanta, and Oglethorpe, GA.

Often called on to decipher, respond, and remedy the most challenging conditions and events, Balch has spent his career advising and defending elected and public officials in the performance of their duties and responsibilities to the public, and is regularly called upon to speak around the country on issues confronting public officials.

Balch is both a Fellow of the International Municipal Lawyers Association, which recognizes lawyers who have distinguished themselves by advocacy, training, and experience in representing public officers, and a member of the IMLA Board of Directors.

A veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Balch has tried over 100 cases to verdict, most in defense of public officials.
