Quorum of the Brookhaven City Council to conduct special meeting

Council action items:  Determining winners of Brookhaven Cherry Blossom Pet Parade, Costume Contest, and other declarations

Brookhaven, GA, March 16, 2018 – In accordance with the Georgia Open Meetings Act, the City of Brookhaven announces a special meeting of the Brookhaven City Council at Blackburn Park, 3493 Ashford Dunwoody Rd on Saturday, March 24 beginning at 12 noon, and Sunday, March 25 beginning at 11 a.m. 

Action items include making the final determination of the Best of Show Costume in the Brookhaven Cherry Blossom Festival Pet Parade and Costume Contest.  Pet’s must participate in the parade in order to be considered for awards. Pet Parade Lineup begins Sunday, March 25 at 1:30 p.m.  Awards will also be given for Fan Favorite, and Council will be called upon to determine winners based on crowd applause, and general hootin’ and hollerin’.

No other official action is expected to be taken by the Council.  Rumors are circulating however that the Atlanta Braves Heavy Hitters and Tomahawk Team will be present to lead the parade and bestow an exclusive Grand Prize on the Best of Show winner. Pet Resorts of Dunwoody and Bark & Board of Brookhaven have also donated exciting prizes.

Confirmed judges include Brookhaven Mayor John Ernst and City Councilmembers Joe Gebbia, John Park and Bates Mattison.  Dahlonega Action Dogs will be ready to entertain visitors Saturday and Sunday.  The judgements made by the Council in all pet-related matters are final and cannot be appealed.

          

There was intense competition in the 2017 Pet Parade and Costume Contest.  Participants for 2018 are advised to bring their “A” game.

 

The Brookhaven Cherry Blossom Festival is proud to be a pet-friendly Festival.  All pets must remain on a leash at all times.  Admission is free.

12 p.m. – 4 p.m. Pet World

2 p.m. Transviolet performs on main stage

3 p.m. Keith Anderson performs on main stage

4:45 p.m. Craig Morgan performs on main stage

 

On Sunday, March 25:

6:30 a.m. Site Registration and packet pickup for 5K Run/1K Walk benefitting Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta

7:30 a.m. 5K Run benefitting Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta begins

8:15 a.m. 1K Walk benefitting Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta begins

10 a.m.-Brookhaven Cherry Blossom Festival opens (See below for parking and shuttle info)

Parking:  Only ADA Parking will be allowed at Blackburn Park.  Everyone is encouraged to use MARTA and follow the signs from the Brookhaven rail station, or utilize free shuttle parking at the following locations:

All festival attendees should refrain from using residential and retail parking areas in the Blackburn Park area.  All visitors are welcome, but local parking regulations will be enforced.

Food and beverages: Festival foodie fans will find gyros, BBQ, gourmet corn dogs, Jerk chicken and lots more at the food court and sitting area which provides guests with a 360-degree view of the stage, Kidz Zone and Pet World area.  Beer, wine and vodka lemonade may be purchased by those 21 years of age and older with a valid ID. Soft drinks and bottled water are also available for purchase. No outside food or beverages may be brought into the Festival.

“The entertainment and festivities keep getting bigger and better every year at the Brookhaven Cherry Blossom Festival,” said Brookhaven District 1 Councilmember Linley Jones.  “The partnership of Live Nation and Splash Festivals has already raised the level of excitement surrounding our music and art extravaganza.  The best part is that admission is free and there is something for everyone in the whole family.”
