Brookhaven SPLOST
Brookhaven Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST)
In November 2017, voters approved a referendum to implement a one-cent SPLOST for the totality of DeKalb County, including Brookhaven. The purpose of the SPLOST is to fund specified certain types of capital projects. Unlike other SPLOST programs in the state, the DeKalb SPLOST contains a requirement that 85 percent of the funding generated must be spent on transportation-related or public safety projects. The remaining 15 percent may be used to repair any other existing capital assets.
Effective April 1, 2018, the sales tax rate in DeKalb County (including the City of Brookhaven) is 8 percent, broken down as follows:
- 4 percent is collected by the State of Georgia
- 1 percent is the Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (E-SPLOST) for the DeKalb Schools
- 1 percent for MARTA
- 1 percent for SPLOST for city and county capital improvement projects
- 1 percent for EHOST for homeowner property tax relief.
The City of Brookhaven is committed to complete transparency regarding the SPLOST special election. To ensure that the public is well-informed about the SPLOST proposal, the City of Brookhaven posts an up-to-date list of transportation, public safety and other capital outlay projects at this site.
In addition to Brookhaven projects, DeKalb County and every DeKalb municipality has its own list of SPLOST projects. For information about county projects, click here. For information about projects located in other DeKalb County cities, please contact the respective municipal officials.
