“Operation Clean Sweep” revived for 2019

Sweepers dispatched to City streets in November

Brookhaven, GA, Nov. 7, 2019 – The street sweepers are back with a vengeance. Operation Clean Sweep puts the finishing touch on years of aggressive paving and road rehabilitation.

“We are bringing back the street sweepers, reviving the successful ‘Operation Clean Sweep’ which was conducted last year,” said Brookhaven Mayor John Ernst.

In the fall of 2018, street sweepers were dispatched to every City-maintained street, drive, road, lane, cul-de-sac and circle for the first time in the City’s history.

“We already have some of the best roads in the state, and they are getting better with the investments of SPLOST proceeds.  Since 2013, we successfully raised the overall Pavement Condition Index of Brookhaven streets from 60 to 70.43,” said Mayor Ernst. “With Operation Clean Sweep, our roads will look as good as they are.”

Brookhaven street sweepers cleaned all Brookhaven roads last year.

Public Works Director Hari Karikaran explained that in order to minimize the impact on traffic, Operation Clean Sweep will occur only at night.

“The trucks will only be deployed between dusk and dawn, and our ultimate goal is to complete the project list of City streets by the end of the year, weather permitting,” said Karikaran.  “Trash and debris in the roadway is unsightly and unsafe.  In addition to garbage and dirt, these trucks scoop up potential road hazards like hardware and other bits of metal that can puncture tires.”
