Brookhaven opens more amenities on the Peachtree Creek Greenway

District 4 Councilman John Funny cuts the ribbon with members of PCG, Inc and the Brookhaven Chamber of Commerce

Brookhaven, GA, March 20, 2023 - District 4 Councilmember John Funny, community stakeholders, and City staff held a ceremonial ribbon cutting to commemorate the completion of the Peachtree Creek Greenway (PCG) Phase 1B project.  Phase 1B includes the installation of various amenities along three new trail spur paths.

Phase 1, known as the “Model Mile”, was opened in Dec. 2019, which allowed public access to the multiuse path but did not have all of the landscaping and quality of life improvements that were anticipated after initial construction was completed.

Phase 1B includes:

  • Three trail spurs off the main path of the PCG, which creates several observation points and recreation areas.
  • Six porch-style swing sets.
  • A native boulder wall along the tree line.
  • Several hammocks, picnic tables, and park benches – perfect for a family outing along the PCG.
  • A children’s play area complimented by two rock-slides similar to those in Skyland Park.

“I am proud to say that the improvements that make this trail very special are complete.  The Peachtree Creek Greenway is crown jewel of the City of Brookhaven,” said District 4 Councilman John Funny. “In addition for providing crucial pedestrian access, this area is also is perfect for recreational purposes, like small craft shows, food trucks, and acoustic music performances.”

Phase 2 of the PCG, which will connect to the City of Atlanta, is in design and engineering with the Georgia DOT.  Federal funding for the design is secured and underway, and additional funding sources are being sought for construction.  Construction is expected to begin in 2025.  Design and Engineering is also underway with Phase 3, which will connect to Chamblee.  Construction on Phase 3 is expected to follow Phase 2.
