More outdoor movie nights offered through August in Brookhaven

More outdoor movies offered in August

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

From rock ‘n roll to the Addams Family

Brookhaven, GA, July 30, 2020 –The Movie in the Moonlight summer film series in Brookhaven continues throughout August with a mixture of movie formats that spell fun for the entire family. Whether it’s a drive-in movie option or simply a movie viewed from a blanket or lawn chair, guests can choose which format works best for them.

In an effort to remain compliant with pandemic safety precautions, both options will be offered just as they were in July. Drive-in movie nights are set for Aug. 6 and Aug. 20, and this time around reservations will not be required. Movie-goers will be allowed park entrance on a first-come, first-served basis. Both drive-in movies will be shown at Brookhaven Park, 4158 Peachtree Road.

Limited to the first 50 cars, moviegoers will be able to tune into the movie soundtrack on their car radios via a FM transmitter set up by the Brookhaven Parks and Recreation Department. The park field will be closed off for the event to allow only vehicles to drive in and all cars should enter the park between 7:30 - 8:30 p.m. with the movie starting at 9 p.m.  No walk-in pedestrian traffic will be allowed. There will be 15-foot wide spaces for each car with six feet between each space to create a dinner tailgate atmosphere for each family/vehicle. Guests are asked to remain within the parameters of their car space throughout the movie. Cars should enter the park using the Osborne Road entrance off of Peachtree Road at 2660 Osborne Road.

On tap for the drive-in movie nights are:

Aug. 6 -- School of Rock -- Overly enthusiastic guitarist Dewey Finn (Jack Black) gets thrown out of his bar band and finds himself in desperate need of work. Posing as a substitute music teacher at an elite private elementary school, he exposes his students to the hard rock gods he idolizes and emulates -- much to the consternation of the uptight principal (Joan Cusack). As he gets his privileged and precocious charges in touch with their inner rock 'n' roll animals, he imagines redemption at a local Battle of the Bands.

Aug. 20 – Sonic The Hedgehog -- The world needed a hero -- it got a hedgehog. Powered with incredible speed, Sonic embraces his new home on Earth -- until he accidentally knocks out the power grid, sparking the attention of uncool evil genius Dr. Robotnik. Now, it's supervillain vs. supersonic in an all-out race across the globe to stop Robotnik from using Sonic's unique power to achieve world domination.

'Under the Stars'

For those who prefer to watch their movie relaxing on a blanket or lawn chair “under the stars,” two movies are being offered that can be viewed from individually-marked socially-distanced spaces, no cars allowed. Guests should start arriving around 8:30 p.m., with the movie starting at 9 p.m.

On tap for under-the-stars movie viewing will be:

Aug. 7 -- Space Jam -- at Lynwood Park, 3360 Osborne Road. In this movie, Swackhammer (Danny DeVito), an evil alien theme park owner, needs a new attraction at Moron Mountain. When his gang, the Nerdlucks, heads to Earth to kidnap Bugs Bunny (Billy West) and the Looney Tunes, Bugs challenges them to a basketball game to determine their fate. The aliens agree, but they steal the powers of NBA basketball players, including Larry Bird (Larry Bird) and Charles Barkley (Charles Barkley) -- so Bugs gets some help from superstar Michael Jordan (Michael Jordan).

Aug. 21 – Addams Family – at Skyland Park, 2600 Skyland Drive. Members of the mysterious and spooky Addams family -- Gomez, Morticia, Pugsley, Wednesday, Uncle Fester and Grandma -- are readily preparing for a visit from their even creepier relatives. But trouble soon arises when shady TV personality Margaux Needler realizes that the Addams' eerie hilltop mansion is standing in the way of her dream to sell all the houses in the neighborhood.

Admission to all four movie events is free. Concession stands will not be available, so guests may want to bring along their own snacks to enjoy. Pets are welcome.
