Briarwood Pool Ground “Cracking” Kicks Off Park Improvements – Fall 2019

Council Member Bates Mattison, Mayor John Ernst, and Council Member John Park (left to right) take a hands on approach to “cracking” ground for Briarwood Park’s new pool.

On October 1, 2019, City leaders donned hard hats and picked up jackhammers to officially “crack” ground for the new Briarwood Park pool. The pool is one of the key projects funded by the Parks Bond Program. Demolition continues through Fall with construction beginning once the site is cleared. The new pool will offer zero-entry and cooling spray features for young and old, plus a 6-lane competition area that will be the home of the Brookhaven Barracudas. Briarwood pool is set to open for the Summer 2020 season.

Read Mayor Ernst’s letter for more details on all the improvements to the pool facility (also in Spanish).

At their monthly meeting on May 7, 2019 the Parks Bond Oversight Committee received layouts for the pool and pool building at Briarwood Park. Because of the extent and cost of renovations required to bring the existing facility up to current code, the committee recognized the need to fully replace the pool facility. The group approved the scope and directed the design firm to proceed with the pool and building as shown.
