A Message From Brookhaven Mayor John Ernst
First, let me thank all the residents who have called and offered support to the City staff member who has tested positive for the Coronavirus.
In the coming days, I will provide you updates of the City’s efforts keep Brookhaven safe and ensure City services continue. Fortunately, City staff has been preparing for the potential of closing City Hall for some time. The City has been doing disaster preparedness for the last six months which has accelerated in the last few weeks.
The City Manager, all Department Heads and I held our daily briefing call earlier today to finalize actions to protect the staff and the community, continue operations, and get City Hall back open.
We have directed all employees who had close contact (per the CDC guidelines) with the staff member to self-quarantine.

We have also told staff that they will be taken care of by the City in this time.
Several key processes were tested for virtual operations in the past two weeks and remote access was established for all staff. City Hall has been cleaned three times in the past week with CDC-recommended materials. This will continue with an additional “deep clean” prior to reopening. Once reopened, there will be an extra layer of continuous cleaning during each day.
Fortunately, the Police Department is a separate building. They have transitioned to virtual roll calls and enhanced protocols for interacting with the public.
