Brookhaven to purchase Development Services Building

The current Police Headquarters and Municipal Court will become Brookhaven’s new Development Services Building in 2023

Brookhaven, GA, April 15, 2022 – At its regularly scheduled business meeting on Tuesday, April 12, the Brookhaven City Council unanimously approved the purchase of the property that currently serves as the leased headquarters of Brookhaven Police and Municipal Court.  In 2023, the facility at 2665 Buford Highway will be repurposed as the Brookhaven Development Services Building.

“This unique opportunity will provide for a dedicated space for the Planning Commission and Board of Appeals,” said Mayor John Ernst.  “It’s an exciting acquisition and another meaningful step in the maturation of the City of Brookhaven.”

The 16,268 square foot building sits on a one-acre lot with easy access to I-85, Ga 400, and the City of Atlanta. All of Brookhaven’s development services functions will be moved to that location, including Public Works, Economic Development, Community Development, Planning and Zoning, Permitting, Inspections, and Code Enforcement.  The Brookhaven Police Department is scheduled to move its headquarters to the new Public Safety Building located at 1793 Briarwood Road when construction is complete later this summer.

“We are purchasing this to create a one-stop shop for this suite of service.  This building and location are ideal to provide services to the contracting community and developers,” said City Manager Christian Sigman.

“I am excited that this important function is being headquartered in District 4 and will serve the entire City,” said District 4 Councilmember John Funny. “I’m really looking forward to how we’ll be able to brand that building for all of us traveling on Interstate 85.”

“I am very excited that the City of Brookhaven is taking this important step to purchase this facility to create a permanent center of operations that can address the needs of the future,” said Mayor Pro Tempore and District 1 Councilmember Linley Jones.

The City Council unanimously approved an appropriation of $4.6 million for the building and property, and approximately 800,000 for building renovations and upgrades to accommodate its new use.
