Rebecca Chase Williams receives Outstanding Georgia Citizen award

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Former Mayor honored by State Representative Tom Taylor

Brookhaven, GA, Sept. 14, 2018--- Former Brookhaven Mayor and Councilwoman Rebecca Chase Williams has been selected as a recipient of the “Outstanding Georgia Citizen” award by Georgia Secretary of State Brian P. Kemp. Williams received the certificate of appreciation from State Rep. Tom Taylor at a special presentation during the regular Council work session on Wednesday.

Williams was nominated by Taylor to receive the award, given to Georgians who go above and beyond in their dedication to the well-being of the state. The award certificate text captures the nature of the honor: “May this Outstanding Citizen be afforded every courtesy as a Goodwill Ambassador from Georgia in her travels to other states, to nations beyond the borders of the United States of America, or wherever she may hereafter travel or reside. Thank you for your service to our State.”

A longtime resident and familiar face to many in Brookhaven, Williams was a huge supporter of Brookhaven’s incorporation and served as a member of the City’s inaugural City Council, representing District 1 from 2012-2015 before her tenure as Brookhaven Mayor.

“Rebecca Chase Williams’ many contributions to Brookhaven played a major leadership role in the creation of the city and the many milestones we have reached and continue to achieve,” said Mayor John Ernst.

“She has played a pivotal part in the preservation and expansion of the City’s tree canopy, supported policies that expanded the City’s greenspace and provided valuable counsel directed at improving and beautifying the City’s parks. We truly appreciate all she has done for the City,” Ernst added.

Just as she’s contributed to the City’s future, Williams has helped preserve its history as co-author of the popular Images of America: Brookhaven book, written to celebrate and preserve the history of the area.

Earlier this year, the City of Brookhaven paid tribute to her many civic contributions by renaming a street in her honor in Blackburn Park, one of the City’s most popular parks.
