The Brookhaven Beat: A glimpse into the work of Brookhaven Police
Brookhaven, GA, March 20, 2019 – During the week of March 11-17, Brookhaven Police responded to 1,606 calls which included 109 incident reports, 84 citations, and 23 arrests. This is a sampling of some of those calls:
Sat. March 16 – Strangulation, Mill Creek Rd & Highgrove Way: Officers responded to a complainant who stated she argued with her boyfriend and he strangled, punched and slapped her and pushed her out of the vehicle at the above location and fled the scene. An ambulance responded to the scene, but the complainant had no visible injuries indicating she had been strangled or assaulted. The complainant then became uncooperative and refused to further assist in the investigation.
Thurs. March 14 – Shoplifting, 500 block of Brookhaven Ave: Officers responded to a call from a loss prevention officer who advised he had seen the subject concealing merchandise in his clothes. He was caught with an umbrella that retails for $9.99, and two nightlights for $6.66 each. The loss prevention officer issued paperwork to the subject advising him he was banned from all stores nationwide. The loss prevention officer expressed a desire to prosecute and the subject was transported to jail without incident.
Wed. March 13 – Child Neglect, 3500 Buford Hwy: Officers were called regarding a mother who had left her four-month-old twins alone in her apartment. The mother went to the leasing office to call her children’s father to bring her weed home, then went for a walk around the area and returned home. The mother was in possession of marijuana. EMS was called because she was dehydrated due to her current pregnancy. The mother was issued a citation for the marijuana. DFCS was called and a safety plan was put in place.
Wed. March 13 – Failure to Appear, 2665 Buford Hwy (Police HQ): - The offender came to police headquarters for missing his second court date. The offender had an active warrant for his arrest for failure to appear for his first court date for speeding, open container, driving while license suspended. The offender was taken into custody and transported to the DeKalb Jail where he was issued yet another citation for failure to appear.
Tues. March 12 - Entering Auto, 2500 Block of Briarcliff Rd.: The complainant states an unknown person entered his vehicle and stole $1,200 that was in the cupholder of his vehicle in a clear plastic bag in plain view. The vehicle was unlocked. There was a laptop computer and some other valuables in the vehicle, but they were not taken. There are no witnesses nor suspects.
Mon. March 11 – Theft of Services - 2800 Block of Buford Hwy: Officers responded in reference to three individuals who left a restaurant without paying their tab. The servers said that three males were all wearing black and gray and headed south on foot. Officers observed three males matching that description walking on the sidewalk and were apprehended. One adult and two juveniles were taken into custody.
