Brookhaven to consider an additional purchase of 1.2 acres of greenspace

Brookhaven, GA, Apr. 24, 2017 – The Brookhaven City Council will consider adding another 1.2 acres to the City’s inventory of greenspace at its next meeting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 25.

“This brings us a little closer to our goal which is to acquire eight acres per thousand residents, in keeping with the vision of the Comprehensive Plan and our mission to preserve greenspace.” said Brookhaven Mayor John Ernst.

“This purchase is a strategic acquisition for potential future collaboration with the school district for a joint recreational effort.  It is our long-term objective to partner with the school system to integrate the unbuildable portion of their property so a new park can be programmed in the future,” said Brookhaven City Manager Christian Sigman.

The property located at 1206 Gail Dr. would cost $198,846. Funding for this purchase is being requested from the DeKalb County Parks Bond program.  There are no plans for construction or improvement at this time.

If approved, the acquisition would follow the recent purchase of 33 acres at DeKalb Peachtree Airport and one acre on Remington Road last month.
